It's all about the small victories
So, the odds were against me actually working out this morning. (1) my gym bag was not packed; (2) I stayed up late watching tv; (3) most important, I am only allowed to run every other day per the Dr.'s instructions and I ran yesterday. Knowing that I couldn't run today, I didn't want to go the the gym. Sure I could walk, but no challenge. I hate the elliptical. The bike is ok for a short time, but doesn't give me the calorie burn I want. I didn't want to do weights because I don't want to be sore - all the excuses ran through my head and I almost gave in - after all, if I couldn't run, why bother.
Instead of giving in I got up and figured at least it would help me stay in the routine of getting up early again - I thought I would just go for a walk on the treadmill, probably wouldn't burn many calories. But then I got to the gym and before I knew it I was on the elliptical. I thought - well, I'll do this for 10 minutes, then I'll walk. 10 minutes go by and I tell myself - ok, 5 more minutes . . . Before I knew it I had finished a 30 minute workout on the elliptical, did another 20 minutes on the bike and burned more calories than I would have if I had been able to run! Small victory, but I am happy!

Yay for you! That's awesome. I need to print out this posting and tape it to my alarm clock. Maybe it will help me get out of bed in the morning.
