7 Miles

Well, I am not going to say that I RAN my 7 mile long run today, but I did do 7 miles on the treadmill. Unfortunately, I walked almost as much as I ran. I think I struggled a lot because I skipped two of my runs this week and really had only run one time since my 6 miles last week. Between that and my hip pain, I think it was a recipe for a rough run. I am going to an Orthopedist on Wednesday to get my hip checked out, so hopefully I will figure out what is going on and it will start to get better. I am worried that he will tell me I need to stop running - but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Anyways, I am pretty frustrated and feeling like there is no way I will ever be able to do 13 miles in only 3 months. It seems like the race is coming so fast. Kara - did you ever feel that way when you were training for your first? How did you get over it?

Congrats on doing the 7 miles - no matter how much you walked, you still did 7 miles, and that is quite an accomplishment! I will say, the toughest thing for me during my training was the shorter jogs during the week, but they are SO important. You definitely need to get your hip checked out....I hope it's nothing too serious!!

I will say, training for a half marathon is often overwhelming. It's at least 50 percent mental...every time I upped my mileage, that was the longest I had ever run. While it was a great accomplishment every week, it was also very scary. Just take it slow, get in a rhythm, and it gets fun...you don't have to run the entire thing. Just do what you can and try to enjoy it :) One tip - I always try to start out REALLY slow....I'd rather get faster and more in a groove as I go than get really tired and have to stop. Sorry that was so long - but I hope it helps a little! :)

You can do it, Becky! There's no rule that you HAVE to jog the entire 1/2 Marathon the first time you ever do one, especially if it turns out that you have a hip issue. I can email you my training schedule for jog/walking the 1/2 Marathon, if you would at least like to check it out. BUT I have complete faith that you can jog the entire race in 3 months! And you'll be nice and relaxed when I cross the finish line 30-40 minutes after you ;-).
